Identification of Panel Data Models with Endogenous Censoring⇤

چکیده
We study inference on parameters in censored panel data models, where the censoring can depend on both observable and unobservable variables in arbitrary ways. Under some general conditions, we characterize the information the model and data contain about the parameters of interest by deriving the identified sets, meaning that every parameter which belongs to these sets is observationally equivalent to the true parameter the one that generated the data. We consider two separate sets of assumptions (2 models): the first uses stationarity on the unobserved disturbance terms. The second is a nonstationary model with a conditional independence restriction. Based on the characterizations of the identified sets, we provide an inference procedure that is shown to yield correct confidence sets based on inverting stochastic dominance tests. We also show how our results extend to empirically interesting dynamic versions of the model with both lagged observed outcomes, lagged indicators, and models with factor loads. In addition, we provide sufficient conditions for point identification in terms of support conditions. The paper then examines sizes of the identified sets, and a Monte Carlo exercise shows reasonable small sample performance of our procedures. We also apply our inference approach to two empirical illustrations.

Quantile Regression Estimation of Panel Duration Models with Censored Data∗
This paper studies the estimation of quantile regression panel duration models. We allow for the possibility of endogenous covariates and correlated individual effects in the quantile regression models. We propose a quantile regression approach for panel duration models under conditionally independent censoring. The procedure involves minimizing l1 convex objective functions and is motivated by...
متن کاملTwo-step estimation of panel data models with censored endogenous variables and selection bias
This paper presents some two-step estimators for a wide range of parametric panel data models with censored endogenous variables and sample selection bias. Our approach is to derive estimates of the unobserved heterogeneity responsible for the endogeneity/selection bias to include as additional explanatory variables in the primary equation. These are obtained through a decomposition of the redu...

This paper presents a method for estimating a class of panel data duration models, under which an unknown transformation of the duration variable is linearly related to the observed explanatory variables and the unobserved heterogeneity ~or frailty! with completely known error distributions+ This class of duration models includes a panel data proportional hazards model with fixed effects+ The p...

This paper presents assumptions and identification results for eBay type auctions. These results are for private value auctions covering three major issues; censoring bias, auction heterogeneity and dynamic bidding. The first section of the paper presents two identification results for second price open call auctions with private values and unobserved participation (eBay type auctions). The sec...
متن کاملInference on Randomly Censored Regression Models Using Conditional Moment Inequalities∗
Under a conditional quantile restriction, randomly censored regression models can be written in terms of conditional moment inequalities. We study the identified features of these moment inequalities with respect to the regression parameters. These inequalities restrict the parameters to a set. We then show regular point identification can be achieved under a set of interpretable sufficient con...
